Criminal Division Welcomes Justice Ajiji, Bids farewell to Judge Asiimwe

On Monday September 19, 2022, the leadership and staff of the Criminal Division gathered at Piato Restaurant tobid farewell to Hon. Justice Tadeo Asiimwe, who has been the Division's Deputy Head and also formally welcome his replacement, Justice Alex Mackay Ajiji.

The Head of the Criminal Division Hon. Justice Michael Elubu, commended Justice Asiimwe for being one of the best performing judges at the Division. "Working in this Division comes with its difficulties and Hon. Justice Tadeo had managed to work around them...becoming one of the best performing Judges in the Division," Hon. Justice Elubu said. He pointed out that under his docket, Hon. Justice Tadeo had cleared all cases of2019 and had embarked on those of 2020 up-to-date. 

To Hon. Justice Ajiji, the Head of the Division said he had broken ceilings and was a welcome addition to the Division. Adding that he was joining an excellent dedicated team where everyone is determined to achieve more. 

Mr Brian Bulega who represented the staff of the Division said it was a great pleasure working with Hon. Justice Tadeo and that they had learned a lot from him. 

Hon. Justice Asiimwe thanked the team for organizing the luncheon. "God bless the hands and heads who thought it wise to put this together," he said.

Alluding to the sayings in Ecclesiastes 3, Hon. Justice Asiimwe said, "now it is time to say goodbye, it is easier to arrive than leave and the fact of life is that changes have to happen."

He thanked Hon. Justice Elubu for being a real friend. Adding that, "I enjoyed working in the Division, congeniality, teamwork was so good, whatever we achieved, we achieved together." 

He said that the Division has been revolutionized with innovations like daily hearing of cases. 

Hon. Justice Ajiji said he was happy to be part of the robust Criminal Division 

"I am delighted to be part of a robust team," he said. 

The luncheon ended with the judicial support staff presenting a gift to Hon. Justice Asiimwe.
